The Whale Wins
Start out your meal with an appetizer like roasted squash or house pickled vegetables. Choose from a menu that is constantly changing but always offers dishes like the salt roasted half chicken, Hama Hama clams and the 32 oz double cut ribeye. Top off your experience with a homemade dessert at The Whale Wins.
Each dish was an amazing blend of flavors, textures, salt, heat. Generous portions. Great service. Best tap rose I've ever tasted!
Charming location, excellent service, mediocre food. We had the fixed price entree for two on a Monday night. Well prepared but uneven flavors and we both left disappointed.
We so very much looked forward to our dining experience, but the food was lackluster and just “ok.” Very few protein options and I’d say the service was average. Nothing about our experience aligned with the numerous top-notch reviews we read or heard beforehand. Unfortunately this was our first and last visit.
Meh. Not an extensive menu. Not very friendly wait staff. Food was ok, but portions were small for the price. The space is so cute and the kitchen is beautiful, which is why I wanted to try it, but we were not impressed.
Sometimes we purge. Other times we splurge. This was the latter.
Very attentive waitstaff, but not overbearing. Good recommendations on how much to order, we ended up with just the right amount of food. Everything we had was excellent, Chicories salad was the favorite.
Birthday was outstanding!
Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Seattle. Grand Aioli is a screaming deal, so delicious.
The food was excellent. The tuna tartare in particular was outstanding.
Beautiful space - especially the outdoor area. The tables were too close together and were bolted down, which made for some uncomfortable 'scooching' experiences to get past your neighbors and into or out of your seat.
The food was not impressive, especially at the price point. Expected more inventiveness with the flavors and textures that just did not happen. The tuna tartare was basically a grocery store tuna salad. The cheese plate was good but could've been constructed at home (three cheeses and a fig jam, plated in the most expected way and drizzled with Olive Oil).
Just a casual summer date night, as first timers we really enjoyed the offerings and experience.
Very limited but delicious menu. Only 3 entres to choose from all verry good. 4 great salads
Food was amazing but took forever to come out. Ended up taking it home.
Another great restaurant from Renee Erickson. We loved Walrus and Carpenter and this place is also excellent. We loved it so much that we couldn’t want to book another meal with my in-laws. We ordered the cheese platter, bread, clams and the rib eye steak. All amazing!
Cute place, delish clams and amazing Rose on tap. Service not the best and I was the only one there for 30 minutes yet 20 percent service charge added to bill automatically.
The food was fine but definitely not worth the hype. A couple of the dishes were inventive but over all just meh. I also didn't appreciate that the waitress brought full pours of drinks when I asked for a taste forcing me to drink/pay for expensive alcohol I didn't ask for and didn't particularly like.
Terrific place. Don’t miss the chicken, absolutely delicious, although there could have been just a dab little bit more. Roasted potatoes were to die for. Strawberry mess was meal topper. Service was great.
We reserved a table for two for our wedding anniversary, and when we arrived, asked for an open table on the patio, but were told that there was only one left, and unless we'd specifically requested it, we couldn't get it. I hadn't seen an option to request that on OpenTable. So we were seated at a table about 4 inches away from another couple who were already eating. It was a whole line of similar tables, crammed together. The menu was wildly overpriced- $90 for a steak? So we left without ordering. Very disappointing- we won't be back.
Just like every other Eat Sea Creatures restaurant, this one has amazing food, service, and drinks. Everyone must eat here!
Great food and great service.
Overall very likable interesting part of the city nice outdoor patio good service nice food recommended overall however definitely overly pricey otherwise very enjoyable
My friend and I had such a nice evening at The Whale Wins. It was a warm night and we sat near the big, open doors leading to a patio. We shared two salads, some luscious olives and the perfectly roasted chicken. I had a yummy gin cocktail and she had a glass of rose. Excellent service and sumptuous food!
Great for a group to try a lot of the different dishes. The steak is fantastic!
We had a great time! Our waitress in particular was exceptional. One of our favorite places.
We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor dining area where we had a smattering of delicious seafood based dishes like Hama Hama clams, sardines on toast and Halibut, which was perfectly cooked! We also love the cheese plate. The meal was punctuated by a fantastic dessert of pistachio meringue. Our server was so kind and attentive. We just loved every bit of that meal and felt it to be an incredible treat.
I have always given TWW 5’s across but this is what held me back this time:
1- Wanted a table for 4 at about 7:30 and was told the earliest they could take us was 8:30 - OK I understand - but when we got to TWW at 8:15 there were a total of two tables occupied
2- I thought we were oversold on portions - wanted two entrees for three of us (plus salad and vegetable) was told “Oh no, you really should have three”, we barely were able to touch the third and we are big eaters (I guess that means the portions are generous)
3- Food was not hot when it came out (we were closing down restaurant because of late table they gave us) and it came out too quickly for our pace of dining so cooled further on the table
The service was rather disappointing. The servers seemed way more interested in serving the table next to ours than us. No one really came to check in on us. We basically had to ask for everything if we wanted something. Food came out slowly and in drips and drabs. There were not enough tortillas. Honestly, expected better from a Renee Erickson restaurant.
This is my favorite place to dine in Seattle. Staff is always super knowledgeable and friendly and they are always more than accommodating with my wife’s multiple food allergies. The food is innovative and exciting and the menu changes often but a few staples are always there. Love.
So far I have only gone to The Whale Wins when there is an event next door at Evo that I am attending and with the open wall you'll get the noise and energy from whatever is happening in the next room. It's never been a problem and for more intimate dining I'm sure they can seat you around the corner in the more sheltered area of the restaurant. Just something to be aware of if you are specifically seeking a quiet dinner.
The food, Oh My Gerd, just go and order a bunch of stuff to share and at least a few of the dishes will curl your toes. Get to it... now.
We were disappointed. The creamy halibut was mislabeled. It was toast with a creamy sauce that contained very little halibut. Not good!Tis was the first time we did not have a very good meal.
GREAT seafood. Fresh and with delectable combinations. A well lit, happy atmosphere too. Highly recommend!
Great food. Interesting preparations packed with flavor of some classics - sardines on toast, roast chicken etc. go - you won’t regret it.
Wonderful dinner and atmosphere. Thank you for a an enjoyable evening.
You walk in and view an airy warm feel. People gather for good food and conversation. The staff was attentive, informative and just kind. Just go, enjoy and smile when you leave.
My husband and I had received a gift card from our son for the whale wins and so we thought we would check it out. I loved the atmosphere and the service was excellent. However, we were both underwhelmed with the quality of the food. Several of the dishes we had were heavily over salted. Also, while the idea of some of the dishes was captivating, the execution left a little to be desired (eg., the clam tart one). Given how expensive the food was I can’t say that we’ll return
Delicious food, super informed and friendly staff! Definitely worth eating here two weekends in a row (and the menu was different each time)
Clever and creative- really nice vibe. Open floor plan can be noisy, but our meal was fantastic, our server was outstanding and we had a great night!
It was very nice - good food, Bartender tried making our favorite Cuddle Puddle cocktail (please bring it back here and at Bateau!), good service.
