The Whale Wins
Start out your meal with an appetizer like roasted squash or house pickled vegetables. Choose from a menu that is constantly changing but always offers dishes like the salt roasted half chicken, Hama Hama clams and the 32 oz double cut ribeye. Top off your experience with a homemade dessert at The Whale Wins.
We reserved a table for two for our wedding anniversary, and when we arrived, asked for an open table on the patio, but were told that there was only one left, and unless we'd specifically requested it, we couldn't get it. I hadn't seen an option to request that on OpenTable. So we were seated at a table about 4 inches away from another couple who were already eating. It was a whole line of similar tables, crammed together. The menu was wildly overpriced- $90 for a steak? So we left without ordering. Very disappointing- we won't be back.
Just like every other Eat Sea Creatures restaurant, this one has amazing food, service, and drinks. Everyone must eat here!
Great food and great service.
Overall very likable interesting part of the city nice outdoor patio good service nice food recommended overall however definitely overly pricey otherwise very enjoyable
My friend and I had such a nice evening at The Whale Wins. It was a warm night and we sat near the big, open doors leading to a patio. We shared two salads, some luscious olives and the perfectly roasted chicken. I had a yummy gin cocktail and she had a glass of rose. Excellent service and sumptuous food!
Great for a group to try a lot of the different dishes. The steak is fantastic!
We had a great time! Our waitress in particular was exceptional. One of our favorite places.
We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor dining area where we had a smattering of delicious seafood based dishes like Hama Hama clams, sardines on toast and Halibut, which was perfectly cooked! We also love the cheese plate. The meal was punctuated by a fantastic dessert of pistachio meringue. Our server was so kind and attentive. We just loved every bit of that meal and felt it to be an incredible treat.
I have always given TWW 5’s across but this is what held me back this time:
1- Wanted a table for 4 at about 7:30 and was told the earliest they could take us was 8:30 - OK I understand - but when we got to TWW at 8:15 there were a total of two tables occupied
2- I thought we were oversold on portions - wanted two entrees for three of us (plus salad and vegetable) was told “Oh no, you really should have three”, we barely were able to touch the third and we are big eaters (I guess that means the portions are generous)
3- Food was not hot when it came out (we were closing down restaurant because of late table they gave us) and it came out too quickly for our pace of dining so cooled further on the table
The service was rather disappointing. The servers seemed way more interested in serving the table next to ours than us. No one really came to check in on us. We basically had to ask for everything if we wanted something. Food came out slowly and in drips and drabs. There were not enough tortillas. Honestly, expected better from a Renee Erickson restaurant.
This is my favorite place to dine in Seattle. Staff is always super knowledgeable and friendly and they are always more than accommodating with my wife’s multiple food allergies. The food is innovative and exciting and the menu changes often but a few staples are always there. Love.
So far I have only gone to The Whale Wins when there is an event next door at Evo that I am attending and with the open wall you'll get the noise and energy from whatever is happening in the next room. It's never been a problem and for more intimate dining I'm sure they can seat you around the corner in the more sheltered area of the restaurant. Just something to be aware of if you are specifically seeking a quiet dinner.
The food, Oh My Gerd, just go and order a bunch of stuff to share and at least a few of the dishes will curl your toes. Get to it... now.
We were disappointed. The creamy halibut was mislabeled. It was toast with a creamy sauce that contained very little halibut. Not good!Tis was the first time we did not have a very good meal.
GREAT seafood. Fresh and with delectable combinations. A well lit, happy atmosphere too. Highly recommend!
Great food. Interesting preparations packed with flavor of some classics - sardines on toast, roast chicken etc. go - you won’t regret it.
Wonderful dinner and atmosphere. Thank you for a an enjoyable evening.
You walk in and view an airy warm feel. People gather for good food and conversation. The staff was attentive, informative and just kind. Just go, enjoy and smile when you leave.
My husband and I had received a gift card from our son for the whale wins and so we thought we would check it out. I loved the atmosphere and the service was excellent. However, we were both underwhelmed with the quality of the food. Several of the dishes we had were heavily over salted. Also, while the idea of some of the dishes was captivating, the execution left a little to be desired (eg., the clam tart one). Given how expensive the food was I can’t say that we’ll return
Delicious food, super informed and friendly staff! Definitely worth eating here two weekends in a row (and the menu was different each time)
Clever and creative- really nice vibe. Open floor plan can be noisy, but our meal was fantastic, our server was outstanding and we had a great night!
It was very nice - good food, Bartender tried making our favorite Cuddle Puddle cocktail (please bring it back here and at Bateau!), good service.
It was excellent from start to finish. Jasmin was wonderful as was our server.
Everything was great but the food wasn't as "cosy" or "rustic" as I prefer. A lot of pickling for the dishes we got. Would come back and try other dishes.
Amazing food, mushroom appetizer was amazing. I never ate mushrooms being prepared so well. Great whiskey sour and mojito. Tried all of their deserts and they didnt disappoint at all. I was hoping to eat steak but it was not available, will return.
Not sure why there are so many negative reviews
One of the best dining experiences I've ever had in Seattle.
Great space, wonderful atmosphere, warm and friendly service and just the most incredibly delicious food.
Can't wait to go back!
My friend and I had a wonderful experience. The food and wine were all delicious. Would definitely go back.
Great night! The service was great: the food came promptly, they accommodated our requests (the music was really loud when we came in and they turned down the volume, which really enhanced our experience), assisted us in our beverage choices, offering a taste of a wine, which helped us make a better choice, and didn't bat an eye when one of us didn't like the cocktail (offering understanding, an alternate choice and didn't charge us for it). The food was delicious, especially the smoked salmon, beef tongue, and mushroom small plates. Only tiny disappointment was the lack of a chocolate choice on the dessert menu. A wonderful evening overall!
Loved the Monday night special: $40 cassoulet for two, add a bottle of red for $20!
Always good especially the chicken
I LOVE THE FOOD AND AMBIANCE AT THE WHALE WINS, BUT THE SERVICE THIS PARTICULAR EVENING WAS SUB-PAR. THE SERVER FORGOT ABOUT TWO OF OUR SMALL PLATE ORDERS, AND CAME OVER WHEN WE HAD BEEN WAITING FOR QUITE A WHILE TO ASK IF WE WERE READY TO BOX UP OUR EXISTING PLATES. MAYBE A BAD NIGHT? DISAPPOINTED.
We had no prior knowledge of the restaurant, and found everything was a fun surprise. Unique and thoughtfully prepared plates made dining great. Our server did a really nice job of explaining the dishes as we made our selections. Certainly recommended to all!
Inattentive and affected waitstaff unable or unwilling to help with menu. Ordered one shared appetizer and two entrees. Appetizer and one entree came at same time. Appetizer was tasty (mushrooms) but presentation bland. Entree was a series of Manila clams in a clear broth with occasional flecks of hot pepper and kale floating. Presentation very unappetizing and not very flavorful. Asked staff to bring second entree and got an eye roll. Second entree was a chicken breast, floating on top of a clear broth with specks of spetzle floating therein. Tasteless but chicken was cooked appropriately.
Surly service to the end was extra painful due to mandatory service charge, though meal was diScounted without apology or explanation.
Sampling the small plates is fantastic. They accommodate dietary issues well. The bartender stopped over to discuss and personalize mixed drinks. My only complaint--the chairs and benches are too hard.
We will be back.
Our waitress was I’m personable and not interested in accommodating a diabetic who could not have sweets. The dessert was not described accurately and and there was an unfortunate impatience to the experience overall.
Innovative and creative food offerings, attentive but unobtrusive service. Simply wonderful.
The overhead music was too loud and a very odd mix. We enjoyed the experience otherwise.
Excellent food accompanied by impeccable service. Absolutely recommend eating here for a delicious brunch!
Great little place.
