Trento Italian American Retro
Trento is our favorite restaurant on Long Island, the food and service are always top notch. For appetizer I recommend the Burrata with fig jam. The Main I recommend either the scallops over risotto or the chillian sea bass. For a cocktail try the
Went to Trento for a birthday dinner with the kids. Food was very good, their short rib ragu was excellent and their three cheese French onion soup was delicious too. Can be pricey but it was very good.
Once again I had an enjoyable evening. The amuse busche ap was delicious, lobster bisque and a salad to start. Filet mignon buttery and the scallops cooked perfectly. Our waitress Nicolette was the cherry on the sundae. We split the profiteroles for dessert and waddled our way to the car. So happy to have this restaraunt so close
We had a very nice lunch. We all order paninis, they were very good and we each too home half the sandwich. The service was very good also.
The food was just OK - our party was not impressed - the service was not good - for an upscale restaurant the service should have been more polished - will not be going back
The food is always outstanding at Trento and the service is always excellent! In particular we always enjoy seeing Sharon who is so attentive , friendly and accommodating!
Among all the restaurants in this immediate area, this one stands out because it is fine dining. It is a comfortable and attractive restaurant with very pleasant waitstaff. I feel that the prices for the non pasta entrees are too high but you should be prepared for that before you go. Overall, the food was very good and a very pleasant experience.
Food mediocre. Portions ridiculously small as an example veggie which came with entree was about one tablespoon worth. Expensive beyond belief for such bad food. Will never return. Table of 6 was in full agreement with me.
We always order the Trofolino pasta as an appetizer and it never disappoints! We tried the mussels yesterday and they were delicious as well. One of the best restaurants in the area!
The food is amazing.A veal chop that melted in your mouth.Tai calamari we really liked along with the clams casino. If you have room the rainbow cake is delishious.Plan to go back again,this wasour 3rd time their
Excellent restaurant. From the service to the food, everything was great. The bolognese sauce in my dish reminded me of Granny's homemade 'gravy'. I don't have a lot of money so I couldn't buy the priciest dish on the menu, but from the plates I saw coming out I might save a few pennies to order them next time. Gelato is slammin too!
Good food but not kid friendly. Soup was $10 a little more than expected. My entree came with no sides which runs the bill through the roof.
Amazing experience every time I go! The restaurant rolled out the red carpet for my anniversary. Food is great, service is unbeatable.
My husband and I chose to come to Trento for dinner mainly because we got engaged there almost 12 years ago, when it was the Crazy Donkey. The food was great, the waitress we had was amazing, everything was great but it was very, very expensive! As amazing as that giant meatball was, 1 meatball as an appetizer shouldn't be $21. My husbad and I got the meatball, we each got soup, one drink (one beer and one coke) and an entre, and we spent almost $130. Thats way over our budget and we weren't expecting to pay that much. Maybe $60-$75...but the prices are a little extreme. I'd love to go back and try many more foods from the menu, but I couldn't afford that again for a while.
Good tasting food. A little pricey but worth it. Nice ambiance, good forr a romatic evening, dinner meetings, or out with a group of friends.
We decided to return to Trento for our 36th wedding anniversary dinner.
All I can say is the place is magnificent. We arrived to a reserved table with poured champagne garnished with a sweet strawberry bubbling by candlelight.
Our server, Sharon, is a professional, leading us through the menu and specials designed by the "new" chef. All our questions were answered and her recommendations were spot-on.
We started with the Small Plate sampler,crab cake, shrimp, meatball and a pasta in cream sauce which was incredible.
I opted for the Scallops, which were perfectly crusted, resting on a creamy bed of delicious risotto. My wife had the veal parmigiana with pasta; a huge serving whereby the take-home was enjoyed the next day for lunch. We ended by sharing a Diplomatico, sort of a Napoleon but incredibly creamy, nested in layers of crispy pastry.
All the while we sipped perfect martinis, made to our order. We were not rushed and we were very comfortable enjoying the atmosphere.
The owner, Leonardo has this gem of a restaurant working correctly; a nice retro vibe, excellent food, upbeat atmosphere. But as we know, a restaurant is only as good as the staff and the coordination between front and back houses. This is where Trento shines.
Again, my compliments for making our anniversary special, and one to cherish and remember
for a long time.
A very interesting menu with great food preparation. My tuna tartare was very good but a little salty and the accompanying wasabi was too mild. Presentation was very good. Service was attentive and efficient. definitely worth a return visit.
This is our 4th time at Trento. They have become more "fashionable" and now have valet parking. I hate valet parking. BUT the food and service are so over the top. We had salmon, little pursue pasta and the tuna. Every mouthful was to be savored. The food is just so memorable. Our server was exquisite. Right on with drinks and cheese and over all everything!
Went on a Monday night around 830. It wasn't crowded but the noise level of the other patrons was louder than I'd hoped for a quiet dinner. However the quality if the food and our server Peter more than made up for it. The appetizer special of Kobe meatballs, lamb chops, crab cakes, shrimp cocktail & Troffolini to (pear, ricotta & truffle oil) was simply off the charts. Peter was tremendous, the perfect balance of attention without overbearing, took a great deal of time choosing entree's of which he was familiar with everything on the menu which he was able to described in great detail as he was peppered with questions. For Peter's service alone I would recommend going to Trento to eat.
Accomadations were exactly as requested. Our waiter Leo was very professional and courteous.
Seriously, this place does it right. From the VERY welcome greeting as you enter to the FANTASTIC food and service. It doesn't get any better than that. ALWAYS fresh and great food. And did I mention the service? Our server, Sharon is AMAZING!!! So friendly and professional. She is the major reason for our return visits. SHOUT-OUT TO SHARON!!!
The restaurant is aesthetically beautiful- the decor is retro chic similar to what you would find in Manhattan. Hard to believe it was once the Crazy Donkey! The service was excellent- Peter was our waiter and since it was our first visit, he offered to explain the menu to us and offered some suggestions. We shared an appetizer -Melanzane- three -cheese stuffed eggplant which was tasty. I had the Troffolini which was delicious. My friend had the rigatoni with lamb ragout which she enjoyed very much. We would have had dessert but between the appetizer, wine and entree, we were racking up the bill! I feel it was pricey. They should offer a date night during the week with a special inclusive price. Will return again for a special occasion.
If you enjoy good food great service visit The restaurant has a sampler of appetizer order it! Meatballs crab cakes fresh mozzarella tomatoes and basil all delicious we decide to share the pasta bolanese creamy sauce delicate pasta! Veal chop extra special!
First time visit to this restaurant for me felt that it was a wonderful dining experience. Attentive waitstaff, so many delicious sounding meal choices from start to finish.
We have been here multiple times and have not been disappointed yet. The service was attentive and not intrusive. Everything on the menu is scrumptious. We will be sure to visit again soon.
I have been to Trento on at least 4 prior occasions for apps and drinks- bar staff was super friendly and professional and the food was great. I will admit, we always got the same thing: Kobe meatball and fried calamari....but it's really SO good! I took my brother and his family for dinner 2 nights ago looking forward to trying something else on the menu and really expecting a great dinner- it was a Monday night, not busy at all- we were rushed, they were taking appetizer plates literally as we were eating off of them- I asked for another plate and she slammed it on the table so hard I thought it was going to break.....probably the worst service I have ever experienced and that's including diners.... If my whole family wasn't there I probably would've left. It's a shame because the food was nice but the service was terrible. I've been a waitress, it's not an easy job, I'm super easy going - I get it. Bottom line, I don't need to spend $400 on dinner to have someone roll their eyes at me- next time I'll stay at the bar!
I don't often write reviews and I have to confess that the location on Route 110 not too far from Republic Airport gave me pause, but hands down one of the best Italian restaurants I've been to. I ordered the mussels appetizer with chorizo; it was unique, flavorful and my mouth is watering now just recalling the experience. chicken Marsala was tender and perfect, penne à la vodka was seriously the best I have ever tasted at a restaurant. I only wish that my party had had the chance to sample more dishes but we will be back to do so. Our waitress, Gabrielle, was knowledgeable, attentive, and had a smile that could bring you to your knees. We will ask for her specifically the next time you eat their. All in all, one of the best evenings out in a long time. Not inexpensive by any stretch of the imagination, mind you, but if you're looking for a special occasion at an Italian restaurant, I cannot recommend this one enough.
This could be a go to restaurant, but the prices prevent it from being that kind of place. Our party of four ordered 2 apps and 3 mains, 2 glasses of house wine, a soft drink and 1 coffee and the total was north of $170! The vaunted giant meatball makes an impressive presentation, but it is not extraordinary tasting at all (I've had better at Carmine's, that Italian staple in NYC). Clocking in at $21, it didn't even have enough sauce to adequately mop up all that meat, which needed the boost. It was, however a good appetizer portion to split between 4 people. Save your money: skip the $14 marguerite pizetta, which is little more than very thin pizza crust topped with the scantest of sauce, mozzarella and basil and eat the pizza bread that comes in the pizza basket instead. A larger sprinkling of basil would have perked up several of the dishes. The troffoltini was delicious; different, perfectly prepared and definitely worth ordering. Veal Parmesan was a veal chop which tasted as tho it had been gelled before being breaded and "parmesaned." Different but very good.
At these prices tho, this restaurant has to sit squarely in the "special occasion only" category. Pt here are too many outstanding Italian restaurants around where you can dine for about half the price. Perhaps we were paying for the obviously expensive, decorator dining room?

All in all this is a great restaurant..from the service to the outstanding appetizers and meals. Nothing disappointing..Yay!! will definitely return.
We've been there twice and both times I have gone home wishing I had leftovers but I ate the whole thing. Lol. It's so tastefully delicious each time for myself, my husband and whoever else is with us. Sooooo good. I had the special on Father's Day of jumbo shrimp, lobster and a lemon risotto. Excellent choice. I wish I could have it everyday!!
Food is tasty and ample. Service was very attentive. Prices are in-line with a good restaurant Will return for another meal.
Each time I come to this restaurant, it impresses me more. The service is outstanding, and the wine list is impressive. But most of all, it's about the food. From the Kobi appetizer and exquisite salads to the Lamb Chops and fish selections, everything is mouth watering. And if you have room for dessert, it's another treat.
Trento is a GREAT FIND ON ROUTE 110!
Stayed at a hotel nearby and the desk clerk recommended Trento. The food was excellent and the decor was quite interesting. Will definitely return next time we are in town.

The fig martini was delicious,the only reason I would go back, other than that,
there are plenty of other good italian restaurants that are a lot cheaper..
Phillipe was the perfect server! He had all of the answers, was polite, friendly, professional. Water glasses were kept filled, wine was always poured, timing of our food was perfect.
Food is good. The kitchen was willing to adjust the menu to suit our wishes.
It was a slower night, so it wasn't crowded which helped the noise level.
the menu is very limited the salmon was very good but i didnt want salmon in an Italian restaurant, i wanted a tortellini dish which they didnt have. the waitress was very good.
We've been wanting to check this place out for months and decided to dine here Friday night (5/1/15) on a whim. Thankfully we did! We were pleasantly surprised (a common theme in the other reviews) as this turned out to be a little treasure on 110. The decor was very stylish and the ambiance reminds you of some of the more high end steak houses on Long Island. We were greeted by the hostess who was very sweet and addressed us by name (we had booked our reservation on Open Table). It is important to get this position right as this was our first impression of the establishment (she aced it!) Our server was also great :) she was very knowledgable of the menu (limited selection but it was nice to not be overwhelmed with choices) suggesting her favorite dishes and checking up sporadically.
Love, love, love. Trento! The food is so fresh and delicious ! The pasta is homemade daily and the difference is amazing! Try the fettucine alle vongole! Oh and the truffle Mac n cheese pizza...there's just nothing else like it on the planet! Trento is not your regular everyday Italian restaurant....it elevates your experience and you'll feel like you're dining in heaven!
The food was outstanding, although a little pricey. I had the polpo salad and swordfish, and it was better than any of my seven-fish Xmas Eve dinners, and I'd probably order it again if there weren't so many other dishes I'd love to try. Our waitress was personable and prompt, and she knew her cues on when to come and go. For dessert, I ordered the nociella gelato and it was so good, i didn't even offer a spoonful to my husband to try, but that's okay because he was more than pleased with his cannoli. He said it was the best cannoli he's ever had, and it didn't look like your average italian bulk ordered cannoli. It looked freshly made, and the shell looked so soft but crisp and he said the cream was the best he's ever had and not too sweet. Just go and enjoy the food, worry about the money later.
