Made my birthday very special. Service was superb!
Dinner before the Opera—great location!
The food is always good at Vivere and the staff is wonderful. Very accommodating and helpful. We had a few different dietary restrictions going on with our group of dinners and the waitress was wonderful in suggesting different variations to meet and manage those restrictions.
First time back there since they changed chefs. The new homemade pasta dishes are crowd pleasers. The gnocchi appetizer is wonderful.
We went quite early on a weeknight, well ahead of the Theater crowd. Food and service were excellent (albeit a bit pricey).
Very good food, excellent service. Will be returning on my next trip.
We are at Vivere. There are 3 restaurants inside. Vivere is the more higher end. This place was fantastic. The food was incredible and the service was equally great. My wife has the Octopus for an appetizer and it was wonderful. Octopus is sometimes rubbery but not this. It tasted great and great texture. I had the seafood dish with scallops, shrimp and calamari. It was incredible. One of the best Italian dishes I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this place. You can go wrong.
Our server Jacob was extremely knowledgeable about both the food and the wine. Our filled pasta was light, fluffy and delicious!
Nice and close to the theater. Great service! Would recommend
I posted a review on yelp. I liked their flexibility in that they changed our reservation time due to a traffic accident that put us about 40 min. behind. Upon arrival we were seated promptly. The appetizer was good EXCEPT for the poorly cleaned calamari. I removed pieces of the inner shell from my mouth. The calamari was also more chewy than Im used to (could be normal due to grilling). The pasta was not cooked to al dente and was clumpy. The shrimps, scallop and sauces were excellent. The wine was good as well. To be fair Id have to go on a night that Im not pressed for time due to an event. Overall Id say its a special occasion place. For it being an upscale Italian restaurant they missed the mark on their pasta prep and poorly cleaned calamari.
This was the 2nd time my opera companion and I ate at Vivere. She truly loved her entree, which was a special, and my my meal was well-done - though the portion of salad was very small for the price.
The minestrone is excellent and the octopus was perfect.
Our server was a 5 star in terms of attentiveness and efficiency. Lovely way to start the evening - and truly all of the staff seemed very focused on great service. We will return - and recommend to others.
Excellent and very attentive staff without being bothersome. Good was fresh, hot and delicious.
I chose rhe vivere from thier web site, the reviews were spot on. I planned a weeknd in chicago im from michigan. This dinner date was the crown and last event for the romantic weekend I planned. The staff was outstanding in thier formal service. Our wine selection was choosen from our waiters recommendations. Wich fit perfectly with our entrees. We sat, talked, and enjoyed our experience there for over 2 hours and felt no pressure to leave or hurry up. Our meals including desert had been finely crafted, plated and presented. I made my dinner reservations the day of, within 6 hours of being seated, with about 45 minutes before our reservation i pushed it back another 45 minutes without any trouble. I cant wait to plan our next romantic adventure in chicago again and im sure we will be back to the vivere.
This restaurant is in the heart of the theatre district, but is a great restaurant even if you don't have tickets to a play. It has an amazing wine list and gourmet Italian food. Our server was excellent!
what a great find in the theatre district. fabulous pasta, great service and a charming environment make this a sure winner. we will be back.
Food was great, but seats cushion was rather uncomfortable.
Valentines special pasta was excellent. Service prompt and pleasant. They really accommodate people dining and then making theatre. Hadn’t been there in ages and great to see it is holding up well! Will be back soon.
Our waiter was very attentive. Food was outstanding, and delicious. Very glad we chose Vivere.
Great food... great service, and convenient location to the CIBC to watch Hamilton!
Food was cooked properly and the drinks were slightly above average, but the value for the money wasn’t really there. Competition in the loop is tough, and next time I want to spend $200 on two people I think I’ll look elsewhere. Convenient pre-theater location, though.
I start this by saying that this has been one of my favorite restaurants for several years. After having moved to Arizona a few years ago, I was back in Chicago for the weekend and wanted to return to a few of the places I missed from the city. The decor, staff service and ambience were unchanged. Alas, what was incredibly disappointing was the food. I had experienced what I refer to as the “wow” factor here many times - menu items that were so good it was the only word you could use to describe them. The dishes on this visit however, while complex were just not executed well. The morels in the pasta my date had were not quite tasteless, but close. My dish, had scallops (1, which was prepared correctly), but the shrimp and calamari in it were far over cooked causing them to be extremely tough and lacking of flavor. As maybe this was a one off incident I will return again, but not after trying some of my other favorite places first.
Gross. Event the bread was dry and plain. Food was trying too hard and bad. Went to eat after donating $150 to this place. Calamari was A rubber band...fish was so oily it didn’t mater what you put with it.
Beautiful restaurant in the Italian Village. Milos was a great waiter and very attentive, the host however was more important in proving that he was right rather than serving his restaurant’s customers. The story: placed our orders with Milos and all was well. Then the food came. My wife order the paperdelle bolognese. It arrived lukewarm with a sauce that was more brown than red, with the dominant flavor being nutmeg. My wife informed Milos that this dish was not to her liking for those reasons. He said no problem at all. He then informed the older gentleman that was playing host. He came over with a menu and asked my wife if she would like to order something else. She said yes and pointed to my dish which was a scallop faro risotto. So I finished my dinner before my wife’s new plate ever came out. Once it did it was a different risotto. It was a shrimp risotto. My wife informed the host that that was not the dish she ordered. He smirked and gave a slight laugh. I told him how inappropriate his behavior was. He then came back with a menu and said that my wife pointed to the shrimp risotto. She actually pointed to my dish and never looked at the menu, but this host was more intent on proving that he was right rather than satisfying his customer. We pointed this fact out to him. He than went into full patronization mode. Back to Milos. He went and spoke to the owner about the situation and he said that our meal was being comped. Milos was a true professional. We left him a commensurate tip but will most likely never return to Vivere. There are too many great restaurant’s in Chicago that know how to treat their customers without being shamed into it!
Exceptional all around meal - great food and drink accented by attentive and engaged service. Molto Bene !
Vivere continues to be a great experience. The kitchen is hitting on all cylinders. The wine selection is in a class by itself. The service is sophisticated yet unpretentious. This place is a gem.
The best Italian food I have ever had. Everything came out quickly. The staff members were a little odd, kind of shy, but nice. Definitely will be going back.
We had dinner here before seeing Hamilton. Great food and great service! We’ll be back to try the other restaurants as well
Theatre was nearby. Great timing
Vivere is my go-to whenever it's my chance to choose the dinner spot ESPECIALLY if I have visitors from out of town. As always, it didn't disappoint. The food was outstanding and the service was equally matched. I would eat here every day if I could!
So disappointed. Food was tasty but service was not good. Server brought main entree before soup, when we questioned it he apologized and said they would comp a dessert, but dessert was part of the chicago week meal. said they would give 1 additional dessert but still never brought the soups until we requested it again! Dessert was probably the worst I've ever tasted. Food was not worth the cost.
The service and atmosphere were wonderful and so convenient being near the Cadillac Palace theater. We thought just under $30 for pasta was a bit extreme although very tasty and average wine by the glass at $14 a glass doubled our bill. I would like to come back and give the Village upstairs a try again for old times sake as this one of our favorite Chicago restaurants when we lived near the city.
We started off Restaurant Week with lunch at Vivere, the main-level restaurant at Italian Village. The prix fixe menu had multiple options for each of the three courses, which is not always the case, so my husband and I were able to try different items. My husband chose Caesar salad and salmon; I had polenta and chicken. We both chose the sponge cake for dessert. As expected, the food was well prepared and presented, with portions generous enough to allow for take-home. Service was attentive but not annoying.
We enjoyed a post-Hamilton dinner at Vivere. They accommodated us showing up a bit earlier than our reservation, which I appreciated it. Our server was friendly and attentive, although a tiny bit forgetful (asking us to confirm things we ordered after she had walked away). The cocktails were great, I especially enjoyed the Winter Spice martini. Overall, the food was excellent. My only complaint is that the beet salad was extremely overdressed. The octopus appetizer, calabrese pasta and cod dishes were all wonderful. An after-dinner drink in the cozy bar and sharing a dessert was a nice end to our experience.
Birthday 🎁 came here because Grillroom Chophouse was closed to the public. Our waiter “Jake” was great 👍🏾
enjoyed it. Had a difficult afternoon, and this did the trick. Service was just perfect.....let two friends catch up and don't bother us.
We dined early before we attended “Hamilton”. Great server, wonderful food, and quiet relaxing atmosphere.
The location is perfect: close to the theater and the Palmer House. We’ll be back!
We had a server who was training a new person and the attention we received was impressive. Combined with tremendously tasty grilled octopus (my entree) and my companion's choice of gnocchi with lobster which she loved it was a great pre-opera dinner
Service was excellent, ambiance was great, food was mediocre.
Excellent and authentic Italian cuisine. Haven't had such good Italian food since we were in Sicily last year!
Vivere was near the theater. The wine by the glass and the pastas were below average. Too many other choices in Chicago
