All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. What Insiders Are Saying
Wayfare Tavern is an old-school spot in the Financial District. And we mean that in the very best way.
Wonderful food and service! Everything we had hoped for!
The service wasnt as good as expected. Server forgot multiple items and add ons requested. Food was quick, but poor service.
I've been a long-time patron of Wayfare Tavern (came initially the second week it was open and have visited upwards of a dozen times since.) This visit made me sad. The food was just ok. What used to be wonderful and fresh and crisp was not. The vaunted fried chicken was tasteless and soggy. Appetizers were vague. Popovers continue to be wonderful and singularly will keep me coming back, but not much else right now. Tyler Florence, come fix your restaurant!
Top notch service and great ambiance. Fried chicken and the pork chop are outstanding. Food could be shareable if you’re interested in more than one dish.
Fried chicken was excellent! I’ll definitely be going back!
Was great food although frustrating to be seated 40 minutes after your reservation time
Have really loved this restaurant for some time now and would highly recommend it based on food quality, service and menu.
Alajo was great. Would recommended 100%
I love coming here and this was my first experience with my boys. The food and service was amazing.
We had a seat in the back by the fireplace. The food was terrific! Our server offered some suggestions but he wasn’t pushy or “over the top” on explanations. Best fried chicken I ever had!
We met some friends for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. They upgraded us to the Billiard Room. I would have given high marks on everything anyway, but it was the icing on the cake.
We will be back and highly recommend
Best burger I’ve ever had!
Went to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Food was pretty good overall. Mussels were just okay. They gave my husband a card which I thought was a nice touch and a candle in his dessert.
Fried chicken was dry and over-cooked. Very disappointing.
From the moment I walked in I was warmly greeting by big genuine smiles and then graciously shown to my table. The food was fantastic and plentiful and very delicious. The service was attentive. Nothing to complain about. I wish there were more places like Wayfare Tavern in San Francisco.
Cozy ambience, attentive staff, good food. We had a summer squash soup, the burger and fried chicken with some sides. One of the sides never arrived, but we ordered too much anyway. We were late for the reservation but the staff was friendly and able to accommodate us.
Incredible from start to finish!
Great food, wonderful service - a fantastic experience.
The waiter was very very kind and took us a foto at the endof the dinner without that we asked something! We will recommend it absolutely
D'lish! Chicken and popovers were great.
My business partner and I had the Plateau de Fruits de Mer which was absolutely delicious. Two tiers of mussels, oysters, lobster, and shrimp cocktail (served with cocktail sauce, pomegranate mignonette, and drawn butter). We also ordered a barrage of well crafted cocktails. And to top it off, we split the Prime 10 oz. NY Strip (served with morel mushroom bearnaise).
This is my 4th of 5th time at Wayfare Tavern and I have never been disappointed. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and fun conversationalists. Bon appetite!
Let’s start with the positives: the fried chicken and the tartare were both very good. Unfortunately, this was balanced out with terrible service. It took 22 minutes after our reservation time to be seated. While we were assured that our table was being set, upon sitting upstairs we noticed 4 other empty tables. Eventually, those were filled with various people who were also left waiting in the entryway for extended periods of time. From there, We quickly received our tartare, unfortunately, this was well ahead of our drinks.
These arrived when we were mostly finished with the tartare. After that there was a very long wait for the fried chicken. This would be fine, but it was so hot and uncomfortable in the restaurant that we both began to feel ill. So almost immediately after the chicken arrived, we asked for it to be packed up and the check brought so we could go home. For the next 20 minutes or so, we watched our server wander around, help other tables, take various pictures of people - basically doing everything but get us out of here. Finally he made his way over where he tried to present us with a dessert menu, oblivious to the fact that my girlfriend appeared to be about to pass out. Finally his helpful coworker came over, packed up our food, while we endured another wait for the check.
If I had to guess why this occurred, we had decided that after a day of wine tasting in Sonoma we only wanted a light dinner and didn’t really want any more alcohol, so we stuck to a house made lemonade and a Pinot Noir grape juice. My perception was that this made us unimportant. So overall, while the food was good, the service was very very bad. Resultantly, not recommended (unless of course you want to test your levels of patience).
Best everything - from drinks, food (especially the award winning fried Chicken), ambience and vibe! A definite must go if you’re in SF! Highly recommend!
Food was very good but not outstanding. Service was excellent despite being very busy. Portions were very generous.
Consistent! The room is lovely, dark woods and tall booths. The host/maitre d' was flawless in welcoming us and having us seated promptly. My 11 year old, who dressed in a button down shirt and slacks for the occasion, was treated with the same respect as the adults at the table. The fried chicken was enough for two people, but all of our dishes were great! My burger was much bigger than I anticipated, but excellent. We did not drink any alcohol on this trip but will take advantage of the wine list on the next visit. All the staff were great, and the location was close enough to our Union Square hotel. We eat at Tom Douglas and Ethan Stowell's restaurants often in Seattle, and will return to Tyler Florence's downtown SF restaurant again.
We had a table in the corner which meant we could hear each other well despite how bustling the rest of the restaurant was. All the food, except the side of green beans, was delicious and well portioned. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu as well as the wine list, and gave us a great recommendation for a bottle with dinner. The bottle a bit pricey, but overall I would say the meal was well worth the price. The waitstaff were all attentive and friendly, and didn’t bat an eye over our 4 hour dinner. Would definitely recommend!
Excellent service. Nice menu. The signature fried chicken may not be the best in the country, but it’s definitely quite good and worth trying.
Visit with son and fiancé.
Excellent food and drinks! And really nice folks who took care of our dining experience.
excellent food and service. We would bring a guest visiting San Francisco to this restaurant. Our server was very professional and personable.
Wayfare Tavern has spectacular food. More importantly to me, they understand the value of customer service, from the bartender, to the table staff, waiters, and of course the sitting managers. Great evening out with the family. Thanks again.
The fried chicken lived up to expectations - awesomely delicious!
My daughter and I shared the fried chicken and a salad - perfect combination.
Ohhh, and can't overlook the super-amazing popovers.
Despite the fact that the noise from fellow diners was overwhelming - I will definitely be going back!
Just the popovers make this an outstanding experience. Great service and also like that sparkling water is available in a carafe, like the tap water, so you aren't paying for it and can have as much as you want! Great food always.
Deen provided exceptional service!
Everything we ordered at our table was outstanding: fried chicken, pork chop, deviled eggs, mac and cheese, desserts. Service was outstanding and helpful, and fun.
One of my favorite spots for casual team meals! Wayfare is just the perfect combination of lively and curated experiences-- the food is incredible, the staff are so friendly, the ambiance is stunning yet not overstated. It's a delight to bring folks from out of town or locals alike.
