   It appears to be a hit or miss with this restaurant. Sometimes it is ok and sometimes it is poor. Tonight was a poor night. I should have expected that it was going to be bad experience when I ordered an iced tea with no lemon plus I needed sweetener. The iced tea came with sorbet in it. I didn’t ask for it and didn’t want it. So I order another iced tea with no lemon and it came out with lemon this time. The simple syrup that they provided (I wanted sweetener such as Splenda) tasted burnt and made the iced tea undrinkable for me. I was charged for both of the teas. The popovers were almost burnt and needed extra butter because they had no flavor from being cooked too long. The devil eggs were good however I ordered the NY strip at a medium rare temp and it was super tough, very chewy and dry like it was well done. The steak was taken off the bill however I am appalled that there was no communication from the management. It seems that they just write off the food however they don’t care about the customers. The noise level was bad because a couple brought in their two year old and four year old. They were loud and several people asked to be moved away from that table. It was a shame. Based on some of my bad experiences, I feel management and the chef don’t care about the food or the service that they are providing to the customers. I hope if you go that your experience is better than mine.

   It was certainly an "off" night at the Tavern. It took at least 15 minutes before our server came to our table to take our drink order and another 15 before he came back with the drinks. The food service was much quicker. When we ordered another round of drinks it took 20 minutes. The fried chicken was way overcooked and we had to track down someone to bring us the popovers that we had requested. Then we got the bill and they had charged us $80 for 2 Mezcal Margaritas. We told them that we had not requested a premium Mezcal and that needed to be corrected. They brought the bill back and it was still wrong and took another 10 minutes to fix. Never an apology from the waiter. Not impressed.

   Excellent comfort food the house specialty fried chicken was tasty. The hot popovers were a great starter treat especially with an outstanding on tap local craft beer. The butter lettuce salad with house made green goddess dressing is a not to be missed meal course. There’s a reason this restaurant is thriving coming out of the pandemic.

    Always 10/10. This is my go-to spot in San Francisco. I’ve never had better fried chicken, the deviled eggs are fantastic, the whipped potatoes and mac and cheese are always a go to. To top everything off… The doughnuts are to die for. I’ll be returning in a month for my birthday dinner. Amazing!

    Between the atmosphere and the food, you can tell Tyler Florence’s influence is evident. Service was wonderful, food was even better. Would definitely recommend.

    The food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. From the cocktails to the bread and the brioche French toast. Every bite was perfection. Thank you sooooo much for this gem of a restaurant.

    Nice atmosphere but upstairs along the railing is a rather high traffic zone and the waitstaff are constantly hustling. and there is a lot of them- but all very helpful and lovely. Great burger! Fried chicken good but not the crispy flaky goodness you expect.Did not have dessert.

    Cheryl (bartender) was outstanding. Engaging, helped us select the right food, cocktails, and delivered a great experience. As I mentioned to Eduardo (bar manager), please have blue cheese olives available for the best Martinis. That was a miss.

    Was really excited to try the wayfare finally; however we were very disappointed with the food overall. We ordered the 24oz ribeye for two which was over salted and contained way too much fat and gristle. For a high end restaurant it was extremely disappointing for the below average food quality.

    I knew we were off to a rough evening when our server Matt removed our forks after taking our order. Now why would you do that?! Service was horrendous. Server Matt had issues keeping himself organized and ensuring all of his tables had what they needed. Even the food runner was frustrated at him. Every course he dropped at tables,there was no flatware present. He said, “He’s new”. He so looked frustrated. Poor guy. Management looked stressed and mainly stood around with stoic looks on their face. Not a warm friendly vibe. Very pretentious. We overheard a conversation by management saying- “The kitchen is F’ing up, Servers are F’ing up. This whole place is F’ed up”. This really made you feel good to be dining here- NOT. We waited to order (15) min, waited for dessert menus (25 min) and waited for our check (25) min. 2.5 hours for a dinner for 2 is too long. Matt even had the audacity to make an excuse to us on why our check took so long. “Oh I printed your check and forgot about it”. No Sh$! He even had the nerve to say, please ask for Matt on your next visit. How about let’s NOT ask for Matt? Although one of our SF favorite with the best fried chicken and donuts, we will not be returning.

    Mothers Day. The staff was extremely busy as every seat was filled. We , we’re Sat immediately, drink and appetizers followed quickly. Our reservation was at 3:15. Right between Mother’s Day brunch and dinner turnover. Our entrees took quite a while because of the kitchen turnover. It was fine as we were talking. After we finished our meal our kind waitress told us our entrees had been taken care of because of the wait. I thought that an extremely kind gesture, especially because we did not ask for this. Even thought the entrees were late the food was delicious and service was excellent as always. Wayfare is still one of the best restaurants in town.

    After three previous dinings at Wayfare Tavern on the second floor, we were able to snag seating for two at the counter on the first floor where much of the ordered food is prepared and dispatched, and one then see the activity going on first hand. As usual, the food was outstanding, the service from James S. equally outstanding and friendly, and the visit from the Manager a real treat given that my wife has been in the white table restaurant business for a number of years.

    The staff’s service has been exceptional. The fried chicken i ordered was missing one piece, however, it was still delicious. The prime rib for 2 was a little bit salty but the sauce really complimented it. It is still on the expensive side and not worth the 150 dollars. The 40 dollar add on lobster was really fresh but nothing too exciting. The steak tartar was surprisingly well prepared and it was above and beyond expectations. The food was a 4.5/5

    Stupendous service! I don't remember the name of our server but I know she (I am assuming a pronoun here) used to work at Slanted Door and has extremely short hair. She was lovely, attentive, funny, a joy. Our office is moving down the street from the restaurant and we look forward to dining there more often!

    Expect better than "Tavern Food," here. The food at Wayfare Tavern is to the food at a tavern, what gastropub is to pub food. They have a diverse menu with interesting seafood, pork, and red meat choices, but the signature dish of fried chicken will shift the paradigm. Sit at a table, or at the bar. Your service will be equally good at either one. I have eaten there a half a dozen times, and they were so consistently good that I have brought many people there to try it.

    One of my favorite restaurant! Warm atmosphere, good food and wonderful service. Just had my doggy bag leftover, turkey club sandwich and I am now one happy girl. Delicious!

    Have visited this eatery several times pre-pandemic. First time back since 2019. Glad to see it was still there. There burger always excellent but tonight too salty and the bacon not cooked well. Mashed potatoes were cold. Fried chicken too salty. Craft beer very nice. Great waiter. Try it again another time.
