Even without a reservation, bar tables are available on a first come, first served basis and the full menu is available. The bar also serves traditional cocktails made with top-shelf ingredients; refreshments at its best in an environment of effortless hospitality. Whether you dine early or prefer to dine after theater, Zuni is a welcoming haven.
What Insiders Are Saying
Zuni Cafe in the Civic Center is still an icon, and it sits firmly at the top of our list of favorite restaurants in this town.
great as always. Amelia was fabulous server this evening.
Very nice dinner but the room we were in was very loud, hard to hear.
I had the salmon dish when I visited that restaurant. Fish was well cooked and the grilled vegetables' seasoning was ok, although the portion of the side dish was cheap. Service was alright and waiters came to be very helpful about the dishes' ingredients. Nice ambiance at the restaurant overall (2 birthday celebrations that night) but you might find it a bit loud if you're looking for a quiet/romantic place.
I lived in San Francisco for 21 years and ZUNI was my go-to restaurant and upon returning to SF on holiday, ZUNI did not disappoint!
Still a wonderful place for lunch or dinner, but the prices are too high for what they offer.
Our waiter could not have been more awesome - Cheers and BIG THKS to him.
My daughter and I had a wonderful "memory lane" lunch. SHe is now 24. We started dining at Zuni when she was 2. Her name is Victoire - Gateau Victoire is a treat.
Delicious fresh food. Disappointed that the duck wasn't available at 7:15 on a Sunday, but I guess you can't tell what people will want. Did have the Ahi tuna which was fantastic. Oysters to start were fresh and delicious. Caesar salad wonderful. Shared a dinner with my spouse and they kindly gave us each a plate with the food divided in half (maybe a bit more with the sides). Wait staff nice and attentive. An all around wonderful evening.
Zuni has never been better food wise and I have been going here since 1985 when it was a tiny space servicing SW food! Now so creative dishes and incredibly fresh ingredients . Service was good and non intrusive . Good wine selection and thankfully not in the $100 plus range! Thank you for some $40 to $ 50 range.
Service was incredible. We had the chicken for two and started with the purslane soup and some sauteed greens (can't remember the kind). Everything was outstanding and just love the ambiance of Zuni.
Be back on the next trip to San Francisco! I would recommend to try out the restaurant!
As always Zuni was a delightful experience. The Bloody Marys are exquisite and the shoestring potatoes are delicious. I have been going to Zuni for over 30 years and it remains one of the best dining experience s in SF. The service is attentive but never intrusive. Food is fresh, simple, beautifully presented and consistently delicious. Caesar salad is my standby but the seasonal salads are wonderful. The hamburger and chicken are signiture dishes and first time guests should try one of those two memorable dishes.
Fabulously prepared fresh California cuisine, great oysters and a comprehensive wine list. Zuni is a classic place but the vibe is priceless. We lived in the City for years and this place has adapted beautifully.
Two days in a row for lunch, both meals & company were perfection!
While the roast chicken met expectations, the soup of the day was a bit disappointing. The soup seemed like an afterthought using yesterday’s vegetables and was a little greasy. The service was great with regular follow-up by the waiter. The upstairs corner table was a bit cramped.
Food was wonderful and the service was excellent. We will be back.
As always, everything was great at Zuni Cafe. We had the Sunday Brunch and everyone enjoyed their meals. Started with oysters that were sweet and yummy, shared a beet salad and drank champagne. Lovely.
The food was very good. Portions were satisfying. The ambiance is quite beautiful especially the floor to ceiling windows.
much better options for the price, not bad but overrated
Zuni continues to be one of my favorite restaurants when visiting SF. Consistently great food and service!
Wonderful as always
Always the same!
Pure and beautiful food and well chosen wines!
The biggest problem encountered was parking. Otherwise the service and menu are outstanding.
Always absolutely unique and amazing! Everything on the menu is exceptional.
Great restaurant with attentive service. The service was even a little fast since I was ready to linger over dinner - but it was a late seating and not too busy so I would judge accordingly. the second floor was the nicer surrounding for a dinner - drinks on the main would be nice.
It was, overall, pretty good...but fell short of expectations. Nothing was “terrible” or even “bad”-but there were “misses”...enough to be slightly disappointing at times
This remains one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Service is almost always superb and the food is consistently delicious. I had tomato soup, strawberries, pizza and Eton mess for dessert. I wish pavlova was on this dessert menu. Decor is eclectic and stylish.
Zuni never disappoints.
Unfortunately, the chicken was dry.
My son’s 16th birthday. He picked Zuni last year, too, and was thrilled that squash blossoms and panna cotta were on the menu. I think he cried a little when he had only one bite left of the squash blossoms.
Mediocre food with expensive price tag. Skimpy Caesar salad.
The roasted chicken is worth the wait! It was perfectly done and the bread salad in the middle was amazing. We also got some oysters and the arancini which were fantastic
So lucky to have scored a last minute (after theater) reservation this past weekend. The service was very professional and attentive. The inspired menu had breadth and something for everyone in our party. Probably the best Caesar Salad and stuffed squash blossoms I've ever had. The Bavette steak was a bit under cooked for me, despite asking for a higher temperature - but the cook knew what he/she was doing as I thoroughly enjoyed every tasty bite!
It was our fist time there and we simply loves it.
Wonderful shoestring fries, roast chicken and Caesar salad, wonderful service and ambiance. Loved the gin cocktail. Too noisy for us, though.
Very nice restaurant
Have been coming here for many years

Vine list does not have any selection below $55 per bottle
Need to have better selection with better value!
Get the chicken - it is famous for a reason! Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would return.
Chicken overrated. Nothing really special going on. Kind of dry without any kind of sauce. $64 for a roasted chicken? I guess I’m the fool. Weird seating on concrete planks with nothing to support one’s back. How is that better or more space efficient than chairs? I’m baffled.
It still lives up to its stellar reputation. Excellent.
It was wonderful. Zunis is a “little” expensive so I don’t go there that often but the food is always superb and the staff is always friendly and knowledgeable.
We always come back for the roasted chicken. It does not disappoint. Great service.
