NEVER have I ever had such a wonderful experience for a date night. That’s why I go back there a few times a year! I wish I could afford it more. Staff brilliant and very very friendly and accommodating. Food absolutely tops. And the venue itself is stunning and historic.

The restaurant was quiet at 10:00 am with pleasant background music playing . I received a very warm welcome from Aga who was extremely courteous and friendly. She let me choose where I wanted to sit and brought me a menu. There was a good choice of dishes at reasonable prices. I chose the comte omelette with an extra side of boudin noir. I also asked for a cafetiere of coffee. The coffee was brought straight away and was very good. My food was served promptly and Aga warned me that the plate was very hot, which got my approvement. Everything was delicious and Aga was attentive but not overly so. The atmosphere was so nice I would have stayed there much longer if I had not a meeting to attend. I had a brief chat with Aga as I was paying the bill. She is lovely and a credit to Cote Brasserie. Thank you.

An attractively quiet spot, rural but within very easy reach of urban Newcastle and Gateshead, with friendly, informally attentive service, but the 5* selling point for me was the really outstanding cuisine - every detail of every dish was exceptional. Often 'gastropubs' are either good gastro or good pub; The Woodman's Arms is the real deal, a great pub atmosphere with superb food.
