This independently-owned café and pizzeria is a place for through trade, local people or those making a bee-line because they’ve heard about its repertoire of pizzas, ice creams and coffees! They come for a breakfast of eggs and Portobello mushrooms, a lasagne lunch or an evening calzone and a bottle of wine or even a milkshake.Community, consistency and inclusion are strong hallmarks of Java & Jazz. It’s also known for its friendly, courteous and energetic young staff - a feature of life here since this well-regarded local venue began life as a small café with a pizza oven in the late 1990s. Back then, it was an informal gathering point for many local youngsters.In August 2024, Steve Ward took over Java and Jazz for those exact reasons, continuing the same ethos and traditions and building on the community aspect of Java, now offering live music every Thursday evening, quiz nights, craft workshops and lots more to come.

The Cat Inn is a 16th century free house set in the picturesque village of West Hoathly, a hilltop village set in the heart of the Sussex countryside. It is in within easy distance from the towns of East Grinstead and Haywards Heath and only 25 minutes from Gatwick Airport. The Pub with its oak beams and two inglenook fireplaces proffers a warm and cosy atmosphere in the winter, whilst our terrace is perfect to enjoy a drink and food in the summer months. Being a free house we pride ourselves in the quality of our real ale, and concentrate on local breweries, such as Harvey's of Lewes and other micro breweries. Our food is cooked to order, using fresh, seasonal and where possible locally sourced ingredients. Our menus change on a regular basis and we also offer a small selection of seasonal specials on a daily basis. We welcome children over the age of 7. Dogs are welcome in the "pub" area of the Cat, they are not permitted in the dining room

    We had the set menu, which was excellent. The snacks and bread set a very high standard, but were more than matched by the crispy egg yolk starter with wonderful flavours and textures- I would happily have it as a main. The lamb main was delightful, followed by an incredible mango, passion fruit and coconut souffle. Service was friendly and professional. This is a favourite Sussex restaurant and we have never been disappointed. The food was so good, I'm returning with another guest this month!

    Very nice evening spent with friends. 2 for 1 cocktails until 7pm and half price pizzas on a Weds, what’s not to love? The service was prompt and friendly. My fourth visit but the first for my friends. They were very impressed and said they would be back 😊
