After a two-year closure, Original Joe's, San Francisco’s quintessential Italian-American dining destination, revitalized iconic Daly City institution Joe’s of Westlake, and reintroduced it into the community as Original Joe’s Westlake. An anchor of Daly City from 1956 to 2014, Original Joe’s Westlake underwent an extensive two-year renovation, complete with a front-to-back interior remodel, including the kitchen and all dining spaces, and an exterior and landscaping overhaul. Following the Original Joe’s tradition, Westlake continues to prepare unpretentious, old-school Italian-American fare in an open kitchen for all to see. The menu is carefully crafted to reflect a past-meets-present hybrid of what Joe’s of Westlake used to be and what Original Joe’s Westlake is today.

    Evoking the spirit of the original Joe’s of Westlake, the newly renovated restaurant transports guests to Westlake circa 1960. Boasting Sputnik lighting, terrazzo flooring and redwood accents throughout, Original Joe’s Westlake elicits mid-century America in the likes of Palm Springs, Beverly Hills and Las Vegas. The newly reimagined Cascade Room features show-stopping pimento orange banquettes, and offers a variety of options for large gatherings—from private rehearsal dinners and memorial receptions, to smaller non-private family dinners, class reunions and birthday celebrations. With beautiful custom sliding doors, the Cascade Room can be divided in half, creating two fully private event spaces, accommodating up to 50 guests each.

    We had a dinner reservation at 4 pm yesterday. This was to celebrate our friend’s 70th milestone. I checked in at 4 pm but my friends had not arrived yet. The reception area was full of people waiting either for their table or their party. Eventually my friends started coming and we were given a booth table. I had dined here for the 5th time and the restaurant keeps the same decors & fixtures. It felt a classic higher end restaurant with old timer & happy customers. Our server Holly came & asked if we want glasses of water and we said yes. She noticed the bottle of sparkling wine I brought. I said it was for our friend’s birthday toast. She greeted our friend her birthday wish. Then she returned with a bucket filled with ice and placed the bottle of wine inside the bucket. We told her one friend was still late and she was patiently waiting. Later we ordered the calamari as our appetizer. The portion of calamari filled the plate. We enjoyed it along with the sweet chili & tartar sauce. Holly gave us slices of warm sourdough bread with butter. She had finally opened the bottle of sparkling wine when our friend arrived. We had our beautiful toast to our birthday friend. We ordered two medium well roasted prime ribs that we shared. And one friend had her chicken scallopini sec. And one asked for a half order of classic cob. The portion was big enough to share some to us. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and tasty. My friend said her chicken scallopini was moist and very good. Dessert came with a complimentary birthday butter cake with vanilla gelato and butterscotch pudding that we ordered. They were good but sweeter for me. The service was friendly and attentive. Holly handled our birthday dinner smoothly. One friend ordered sliders to go. Note the corkage fee was $20. Overall it’s a dependable venue for family gatherings or celebrations with friends. I would definitely come back with my husband.

    Food was not as good as in the past. My shrimp Louie was a bit fishy and did not taste fresh. I would order something different next time.

    I respected and enjoyed the fact that waiter was willing to split a salad between my wife and myself and for the first time since I’ve been going to Joe’s since 1959. I had the lamb chops. They are exquisite. That’s all I can say.

    Stop the rushing! It was a birthday celebration the little cake came out with candle lit, people singing we were still eating! Stop prioritizing table roll over and let people enjoy their experience. Thanks for making a birthday celebration extremely awkward.

    The booths were ridiculously low, made you feel like a child. Maybe the tables are better? Never again in the main dining room or Garden room
