The Rosa shows that sometimes taking something old and making it new again can come out quite well. The founder opened the family-style Italian gem in 1927 using the family home to do it. For 55 years Ralph Rosa fought all odds, including the Great Depression and Prohibition, and continued to provide Portsmouth great Italian classics. For the past 30+ years, The Rosa has continued under new ownership that remodeled and updated, but kept plenty of familiar dishes. Notable menu items include the house-made herb gnocchi with slow braised espresso pork shoulder and lasagna Bolognese.     Superb dining experience! It was our first visit here, and we were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked in the door, we knew we chose the right place to celebrate. The hostess greeted us with the most beautiful smile and seated us at a wonderful table. To make the start of the evening more special, we received an anniversary card signed by the staff. (Excellent touch) Our servers Steven and Rhiannon did a fabulous job in making sure we were totally satisfied with everything. They both truly went above and beyond with service. They answered all of our questions and gave us the best recommendations for food. The food was nothing short of amazing! The grilled octopus and burrata appetizers were followed by the veal chop and the Arctic Char, and the grand finale was the Crème Brûlée. All were delicious, and we enjoyed the uniqueness of the items on the menu. A truly exceptional dining experience. We will definitely be back.

    We had a wonderful time celebrating a birthday at your property! The Tiller was superb! The first night Hector at the bar was fantastic and the second night Lauren in the main dining room was spectacular. Both represented the restaurant and name so well. Hector guided us through the menu the first night and made some great recommendations. Lauren went above and beyond and was so wonderful to have as our server. Pleasant, friendly, professional. A true pleasure to dine at The Tiller!

    We loved all the improvements made by the new ownership! The open expanded bar area and the improved menu with some vegetarian options! We had the bruschetta, house salad, pasta primavera and meatball/sausage pasta. Everything was absolutely delicious, including the fresh focaccia bread with dipping oil. The servers were all friendly, courteous and attentive without making us feel rushed at all. We will definitely be back!

    Always a great place to eat. It’s our favorite seafood restaurant in southern Maine. We have many seafood restaurants around us in Wells but always love to travel down to York for this place!
