Thip Khao is acclaimed chef Seng Luangrath's flagship restaurant in Columbia Heights, Washington, DC. Thip Khao serves up spicy Lao (or Laotian) dishes and classic cocktails with an exotic twist. Lao cuisine leverages tropical herbs and cooking techniques of Southeast Asia. However, the flavor profile is distinct from its fellow SE Asian countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Dishes like Naem Khao (Crispy Rice Salad), Sai Oua (lemongrass pork sausage), Laab, and Tam Muk Houng (Lao papaya salad) at Thip Khao showcase the unique flavors of Laos. Many dishes are served with sticky rice. Chef Seng recommends eating sticky rice with your hands as most Laotians do. The restaurant has had national recognition from multiple publications including New York Times, Washington Post, Bon Apetit magazine, Washingtonian magazine, and Michelin Guide (Bib Gourmand).

Old Ebbitt Grill met all our expectations and then some! Jeremy our waiter, was absolutely fantastic! The scallops and salmon were fantastic, steak was the best we’ve ever had and the peanut butter pie blew us out of the water! We will be dining here again when we were in town. Jeremy and the staff were attentive, kind, funny and professional. Far exceeded our expectations!

Our experience was outstanding! The service was impeccable. Laura our server was so sweet and attentive. The place was very busy yet the food came out very quickly. The GM Jeff runs a tight ship. He obviously cares about his guests. The mezzes were amazing. The octopus was my favorite. My husband. The desserts were special. The Galopotita was an experience to the taste buds! We also had the Greek yogurt and apricots. Worth the calories!

This is some of best Persian food we have had. This is just as good as homemade (my son-in-law is Persian.) We have been there several times including Mother's Day. Six of us gathered to enjoy a wonderful lunch. The owner and staff were very attentive and accommodating. We enjoyed the Kashk Bademjan(eggplant) and Mast O Khiar(yogurt and cucumber) for starters as well as the Wings prepared with pomegranate molasses. They were spectacular! We shared kabobs and Ghormeh Sabzi, a beef stew, and Fesenjoon a rich chicken stew. We ended with salmon and lamb shank. Each dish was served with the appropriate rice. Most of which we wound up taking home. We were too stuffed to order dessert, but the Baghlava and ice cream are both delicious. The prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try Persian food.
