Chai Pani is a James Beard Award-winning restaurant by chef Meherwan Irani, known internationally for broadening the representation of Indian street food in America. Meherwan and Vishwesh Bhatt, the executive chef and southern food icon, believe Indian street food - the everyday cuisine of more than a billion people - reflects the greatness of India. The shareable menu they created honors both street food and Irani cafe traditions of chaat (street snacks), uttapam (savory fermented pancakes), chhota plates (truck stop–style small plates), sigri (grill), pav (street sandwiches, pronounced “pow”), and specialties. An experience that sparks your curiosity, blasts your culinary and visual senses under kaleidoscopic colors, garlands of bougainvillea, and hand-painted museum-worthy murals by local District artists - transporting you to the streets of Mumbai. Ok! Be one of a billion. Come visit us!

Chef Nicholas Stefanelli approaches hosting guests in his restaurant as more of a lifestyle than a profession, taking the pretense out of fine dining in favor of heartfelt hospitality and honest cooking. Featuring an open-air courtyard with relaxed seating, a covered pergola seating area, and an indoor sala with a view of the seafoam green-tiled open kitchen, Masseria, brings together the rustic but welcoming aesthetic of an Italian country estate, the industrial grit of the Union Market district. Masseria features two dining experiences, a special 8-course Chef's Tasting Menu at our Chef's table, and Chef's counter. And our 6-course La Cucina Menu at our Bar, Sala, and Pergola.

We visited SHIA to celebrate our honeymoon and my birthday, and it was a truly unforgettable experience filled with extraordinary food. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to all the staff for their wonderful hospitality. The only minor disappointment was that we couldn't meet Chef Edward Lee, whom I have been a huge fan of and always hoped to meet in person. The food was fantastic—especially the lamb dish, which was absolutely exceptional. Thank you once again for creating such a beautiful memory for us. You are simply the best!

The indian street food rivals any other Indian food in DC. The braised lamb shank was tender as butter and the Indian spices on the lamb were fragrant, balanced and delicious. The chicken in the butter chicken was tender and the sauce had a lot of umami! The deserts are the best Indian deserts I have ever had! This restaurant is definitely up for repeat

Outstanding experience. Food and service were great. Recommend the whole chicken, crab rice, and carrots. Chef Anthony even stopped by our table and chatted us up for about 20 minutes, and I had to do my best not to Stan. It was a birthday dinner for me, so definitely a very memorable experience!
